Students in Mrs. Kimberly Spears' Child Development classes would like to thank Mr. Ricky Land, EMS Program Director at LSC-O, for coming to speak to us about First Aid Basics, Infant/Child Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation skills, and the Heimlich Maneuver. We hope we never have to use these trainings, but appreciate the preparation. These life saving skills are great for those that are around small children and specifically those that plan to babysit this summer.

🧡State Track Meet!🧡

After weather pushed the start of the 22-3A District Tennis Tournament back a day, the Orangefield Bobcats traveled to Lamar University on Tuesday, April 30th, with a full, 16-member squad.
Day one of the event saw Orangefield win matches in all draws, helped by wins from Lawton Bertrand and Ava Dyer in singles and the doubles teams of Leland Conley/Breckin Hanley and Dylan Loga/Jacob Worthy.
Freshman, Emily Szakmeister made her varsity debut facing off against the 4 seed in girl’s singles and gave her a fit before being eventually being defeated in round one. The mixed doubles team of Phuong Tsan and Zane Wrinkle received a first round bye, but drew a tough first matchup against another 4 seed. The pair fought hard, but fell to Kirbyville’s top team.
The Cats also saw strong performances from some familiar faces as Cane Ritchey, Cassidy Childers/Brianna Moore, and Ava Walker/Adam Tsan all played well enough to advance to the second day of competition.
Day two began with Ritchey, Childers, and Moore facing off in 3rd place matches. Freshman, Cane Ritchey, battled the 2 seed from East Chambers while Cassidy Childers and Brianna Moore drew Kirbyville. Both proved to be a little too much leaving the trio as 4th Place Medalists.
The highlight of the tournament was the finals matchup pitting Freshman, Ava Walker and Junior, Adam Tsan against the Kirbyville duo that defeated Tsan/Wrinkle the day before. Orangefield went up immediately winning game one in the first set, but hit the skids dropping the next 4. After being down 1-4 they fought their way back, but would eventually lose the set 5-7. The Bobcats went back and forth for much of the second, but found a way to win the final 2 games forcing a third and final set.
The deciding set is where Walker and Tsan really let their play speak for itself as it has for so much of the season. Behind the powerful serves of Adam Tsan and Ava Walker’s prowess around the net, Orangefield went on to take the match (5-7, 6-4, 6-0) making the pair District Champions in Mixed Doubles!
Walker and Tsan’s next stop will be the Region III 3A Tennis Tournament in College Station on May 10th and 11th!
We Believe!
